KUCHING, Aug 16: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will announce an assistance on the pricing of raw construction materials for contractors soon.
He noted that contractors in the State are having problems in implementing projects due to rising cost of construction materials which also led to the State facing ‘sick’ projects.
“Thus, I will announce the government assistance in terms of pricing of raw materials soon. Actually I was delayed because I was calculating (the cost) with the State Financial Secretary (SFS) on how to help our contractors.
“I will announce (the assistance) soon and that will create a scenario that Sarawak will be very busy up to 2030,” he said during the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Sarawak Energy and Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today.
Abang Johari also reminded that it is important for the construction industry players to go for clean environment by incorporating environmental, social and governance (ESG) and Green Building Index (GBI).
“The two quotations that are very important to any contractors are GBI which has to be a standard when we do construction, and ESG because the banking sector will only finance if this element is part of the project,” he added. — DayakDaily
