KUCHING, June 16: The Premier of Sarawak and Chief Minister of Sabah should have the power to appoint their representatives to be members of the Inland Revenue Board (IRB).
Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) youth chief Datuk Snowdan Lawan said this in support of Tanjung Manis MP Yusuf Abdul Wahab’s statement in Parliament during the debate of the IRB (Amendment) Bill 2023.
“Sarawak has voiced out that it must have a representative sitting on the Board in order to have a fair share in scrutinising the balance sheet of the State.
“This is in view of the significant contributions of the State to the Federal coffers over the past few decades, and its only fair for Sarawak to know how much exactly is its contributions.
“Imperatively, the appointment of representatives from the two States shall be endorsed by their respective Premier or Chief Minister or Premier,” said Snowdan in a press statement today.
He said he has no doubt that the leaders of Sarawak and Sabah will appoint the most credible candidates who are able to serve the States’ interest best. — DayakDaily
