KUCHING, Sept 28: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has received the Special Award for Tourism Regional Leadership Excellence ‘Championing Sustainable Growth’ at the 9th Sarawak Hornbill Tourism Awards 2019-2023 gala dinner held at Hikmah Exchange Event Centre (HEEC) here last night.
The award is particularly significant as it was presented by tourism industry partners, players, and stakeholders, recognising Abang Johari’s impactful contributions to the sector.
A video montage played during the ceremony also underlined the many initiatives introduced by Abang Johari in efforts to revitalise the tourism industry especially after its downturn during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The award was presented to Abang Johari by Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah during the ceremony.
Also present were Deputy Minister of Tourism Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu, MTCP permanent secretary Datu Sherrina Hussaini, Sarawak Tourism Federation (STF) president Audry Wan Ullok and Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) chief executive officer Sharzede Datu Salleh Askor. — DayakDaily
