KUCHING, Sept 18: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is reported to be in the holy city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia, after completing his Umrah pilgrimage.
The Sarawak Premier’s Office confirmed the matter when contacted by TVS earlier today.
The development was also shared through posts on Threads and Facebook, which stated that he is currently in the holy city with his entourage.
“Alhamdulillah, the Sarawak Premier has completed his Umrah pilgrimage with AZ Safir Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd. Thank you to all Sarawakians who prayed for him,” said a post on Threads by user wmmujahid, who has been identified as Mujahid Alwi and is the Darul Hana Quranic Centre manager under the Sarawak Islamic Council.
Earlier, Abang Johari’s departure was accompanied by Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, President of the Sarawak Islamic Council Datuk Misnu Taha, and Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya, with the group departing from Kuching International Airport.
He and his entourage are understood to be scheduled to return to Kuching next Tuesday (Sept 22). — DayakDaily
