KUCHING, Oct 18: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has expressed his hopes that the American Corner Sarawak (ACS) will focus on programmes related to artificial intelligence (AI) and the digital economy, marking these areas as vital engines for the future development of the State.
Speaking during the 20th-anniversary celebration of the ACS at the Sarawak State Library here today, his speech, delivered by Sarawak Deputy Minister of Youth, Sport, and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat, highlighted the rapid pace of global technological advancement and its significant impact on various sectors.
“As we stand at the cusp of this new era, there is much to look forward to. The world is changing faster than ever before, driven by technological advances and the rise of the digital economy.
“As we look ahead, my hope is that the American Corner Sarawak will prioritise programmes focused on artificial intelligence (AI) and the digital economy.
“These two fields are the engines of the future, and we must ensure that Sarawak is not just a passenger on this journey but an active contributor,” said the Premier.
The Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030 was also cited as a guide for shaping the future of ACS programmes.
The Premier further expressed belief that by leveraging the digital economy, Sarawak can position itself as a regional leader, nurturing local talent and entrepreneurship.
“We need to equip our communities with the knowledge and skills to engage with AI—not as a distant concept but as a tool that can improve lives and create opportunities.”
Abang Johari also outlined key priorities for ACS, including AI literacy, entrepreneurship, and digital innovation, as well as sustainability. These strategic pillars aim to provide Sarawakians with the resources and mentorship necessary to thrive in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
The ACS, established as a hub for knowledge exchange and cultural collaboration between the United States and Sarawak, has adapted its role over two decades, now gearing up to embrace AI and digital innovation to better serve the community’s future needs.
The Premier also expressed gratitude to the US Embassy for its continued support, noting the instrumental role of the partnership in fostering educational and cultural ties between Sarawak and the United States. — DayakDaily
