BARAM, July 4: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has approved an allocation of RM2.25 million to rebuild a 45-door Penan longhouse at Kampung Long Leng here today.
He said the longhouse chief Maister Lolee has informed him that the structure of their longhouse has become dilapidated over time and the rebuilding works for each door would cost about RM50,000.
“I have discussed with Baram MP Dato Anyi Ngau and Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau (on this matter) and I have also listened to Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah (Sarawak Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development) on the need for better infrastructure.
“Thus, I have decided to approve the allocation so that the longhouse residents can have better homes and subsequently improve the space for children to study,” he said when officiating at the Tadika Komuniti Sedidik Penan in Apoh/Tutoh near Kpg Long Leng here.
He also noted that the Penan have produced many capable leaders that are currently holding the positions of a resident and district officer.
Also present were Fatimah, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohammad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Minister of Women and Childhood Development Datuk Rosey Yunus, Deputy Minister of Community Wellbeing Development Mohd Razi Sitam, Anyi and Dennis. — DayakDaily
