KUCHING, March 11: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Sarawak Contingent has approved 572 permits out of 584 applications for the sale of ‘Pop-Pop’ and ‘Happy Boom’ fireworks in celebration of this year’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
In a TVS news, Sarawak Police Commissioner Mohamad Zainal Abdullah urged sellers and the public to use fireworks responsibly, avoiding late-night activities that may disturb nearby residents.
“We advise the public to only use approved fireworks or firecrackers and to refrain from playing with them late at night, so as not to disrupt the rest of the community,” he said during the PDRM Sarawak Contingent’s Ramadan Jalinan Kasih Programme today.
He noted that the government permits the use of approved fireworks during major celebrations such as Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year, and Hari Gawai to enhance the festive atmosphere.
Permits were also issued earlier to allow traders to start their business sooner, giving them the opportunity to boost their income.
Mohamad Zainal added that only 10 per cent of personnel at each police station under the Sarawak PDRM Contingent will be granted leave during Aidilfitri to maintain a high level of operational readiness.
He also announced that the Integrated Aidilfitri Operation will be launched soon to strengthen security monitoring and reduce road accidents.
“In the previous Ops Selamat, there was a slight increase in fatal accidents, with five cases reported compared to the previous year.
“Therefore, those travelling back to their hometowns are urged to drive safely and ensure their vehicles are properly maintained,” he said. — DayakDaily
