KUCHING, Nov 20: Sarawak’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is expected to climb to an average growth rate of 4.6 per cent from 2026 to 2030, reflecting the State’s strengthening economic momentum and its steady advance toward sustainable development.

Chief Secretary to the Government of Malaysia Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said this projection builds on the Sarawak’s solid economic performance in recent years, noting that the State recorded healthy GDP growth across the 2020–2024 period and is poised to achieve 5.7 per cent growth in 2025.

“Between 2021 and 2024, Sarawak’s GDP expanded at an average rate of 3.8 per cent per year, demonstrating its resilience despite global economic uncertainties.

“The upward trend reflects not only the robustness of Sarawak’s economy but also the effectiveness of ongoing development strategies implemented at both the State and federal levels,” he said during the Sarawak Civil Service Day 2025 celebration at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today.

Shamsul also recognised the invaluable contributions of Sarawak’s civil servants and their unwavering commitment to serving the State and its people.

He further extended his congratulations to the Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who was conferred The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star, by Emperor Naruhito in Tokyo on Nov 11.

“This prestigious award is not only a personal honour for him, but also reflects international recognition for Sarawak,” he said.

Shamsul noted that the Sarawak government continues to advance its 3R approach (Revisit, Rethink, and Recharge) to enhance digital service delivery, with initiatives such as SarawakPass, SPay Global, and broader adoption of advanced technologies.

“As the Chief Secretary to the Government, I am very optimistic about the future of Federal–Sarawak relations.

“I hope that close cooperation in administration, digital transformation, integrity, and development will continue to be strengthened,” he added. — DayakDaily
