KUCHING, July 19: Sarawak Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has taken note of its members and branch leaders throughout the State who lodged police reports en masse today against former Prime Minister Dato Sri Najib Tun Razak.

According to its information chief Abun Sui Anyit in a media statement, the police reports were made over the former prime minister’s alleged negligence towards claims of around RM67.5 billion by the descendants of the Sulu sultanate.

He said the lawsuit started following the decision of Najib’s administration to reportedly halt annual payments to the descendants of the sultan of Sulu in 2013.

“The decision made by Najib triggered the retaliation of the descendants of the Sulu sultanate who initiated legal action on an international level against the Malaysian government,” he said.

He added that the notice of the suit was sent to the government on November 2, 2017, when Najib was the prime minister.

“The authorities should investigate Dato Seri Najib under the provisions of the existing Penal Code (Act 574) and regulations binding on a civil servant while in service, such as Article 132 (Public Services) and the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993 under the Federal Constitution to determine the elements of negligence committed by him in addressing this issue,” he said.

Abun said Sarawak PKR leaders who have lodged police reports would enable investigation papers to be opened to ensure that civil servants carry out their duties with full diligence and without negligence that could be detrimental to the people and the country.

As of the time since the media statement was issued, the Sarawak PKR branches that have lodged a police report against Najib are Hulu Rajang, Miri (Youth wing), Serian, Puncak Borneo, Sri Aman, Sarikei, Petrajaya, Mukah, Kapit, Kota Samarahan, Kanowit, Lubok Antu, Stampin, and Bintulu.

“Other branches in Sarawak that have not made a police report yet are still arranging to do so, and some will make a police report tomorrow because there are constraints that cannot be avoided today.
