KUCHING, March 14: The Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway contractor will temporarily open ditches to prevent flooding during the rainy season or high tide.

According to a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing stated that heavy rains in some of the affected areas resulted in flooding and caused most of the local farmers’ crops to perish.

Ding visited the affected areas after receiving a complaint from Nam Kiew Sarikei community leaders.

Following a visit and survey of the area, it was discovered that the road next to the Pan Borneo Highway was not fully completed, and a temporary ditch will be constructed to prevent this from happening again.

Ding explained that after the Pan Borneo Highway construction in the area is completed, the drainage and junction road leading to housing areas will be redone.

As a result, Ding urged the contractor and the community chief to resolve the issue for the sake of the general public.

Also present were construction manager Ishak Awang, Kapitan Yong Mang Seng and Kapitan Ham Kok Chii. — DayakDaily
