KUCHING, July 22:  It is the plan of the Sarawak government to have TV Sarawak operational by the end of the year.

The plan was unveiled by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg at Sarawak Day Celebration held in Miri today.

This is possible following a 10-year license been granted by the Ministry of Multimedia and Communication.

“We also do not forget the important role of the creative industry to generate our economy. God willing, in not too distant future we will be able to provide a platform for our creative industry enthusiast to showcase and monetise their work.

“Hopefully, by the end of the year, if everything goes well, TV Sarawak will start its technical trial as the State has been granted a 10-year license by the Ministry of Multimedia and Communication to operate a TV Station in Kuching,” said Abang Johari.

In terms of management, he said Sarawak Media Group (SMG) will manage it.

“Sarawak Media Group (SMG), a Sarawak Government GLC will manage and operate the TV station that will provide broadcasting services as a free-to-air channel, online publishing and information provisioning services.

“I would like to call for all our local creative industry players to grab this golden opportunity once TV Sarawak is fully operational,” said Abang Johari.— DayakDaily
