“In this regard, Sarawak is ready to embrace the trust of scientists in preserving our environment and introducing new approaches in policy formation,” he said.

Abang Johari made the remarks during the official dinner in conjunction with the International Conference on Tropical Sciences (TropSc 2024) here last night (Oct 16).

In his speech, the Premier also highlighted the Sarawak government’s focus on leveraging the State’s strengths to tackle the challenges of climate change.

“We know that carbon is the main culprit, but the question is how to balance carbon with fresh oxygen.

“Therefore, the Sarawak government is focusing on forest conservation, and in this field, we are discussing carbon storage,” he added.

The Premier also expressed his hope that the conference will offer valuable insights on ways to explore tropical resources to contribute to solutions for global issues, especially in addressing climate change.

Also present were Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Chang Lih Kang, Sarawak State Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Chairman of the Tropical Science Foundation, Tan Sri Dr Ir Ahmad Tajuddin Ali, FASc, and other distinguished guests. — DayakDaily
