KUCHING, Oct 9: Sarawak Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) has received a clean audit certificate from the National Audit Department (NAD) for its financial statement ending Dec 31, 2023.

According to a TVS news report, NREB Sarawak Environmental Quality Controller, Jack Liam, announced this achievement, emphasising that it reflects the Sarawak government’s unwavering commitment to managing and safeguarding natural resources to achieve sustainable development.

The certification was awarded as a result of NREB’s stringent policy requiring project developers to submit Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) reports and Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) for approval before any project can commence.

“The collaborative efforts of all parties involved in financial management and accounting, along with the internal auditors’ dedication, have indirectly contributed to continuous improvements in NREB’s administrative activities,” Jack stated.

Speaking at the 2024 NREB Integrity Day celebration held at a prominent hotel here yesterday (Oct 8), he also highlighted that NREB consistently upholds integrity as the core of its financial management practices.

Additionally, he noted that as of Sept 2024, NREB achieved a 74.53 per cent implementation rate of initiatives under the revised NREB Organisation Anti-Corruption Plan (OACP) 2021–2025.

These initiatives focus on enforcement, environmental governance, finance, procurement, and administration.

The OACP ensures that NREB, as the key agency responsible for environmental enforcement and sustainability in Sarawak, remains steadfast in its zero-tolerance policy towards issues related to integrity, bureaucratic red tape, system weaknesses, or inefficient procedures. — DayakDaily
