KUCHING, Dec 20: The recent appointment of two Sarawak MPs as deputy ministers in the federal Cabinet reshuffle presents an important opportunity for them to demonstrate their capability in serving not only the people of Sarawak but all Malaysians.

Commenting on the appointments, Minister of Public Works Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the move underscores the Madani government’s commitment to inclusive and robust governance while amplifying Sarawak’s voice in national policymaking.

“I personally view these appointments positively and constructively. Despite differences in political backgrounds at the state level, we remain united within the framework of cooperation at the federal level as part of the Madani government.

“These differences should not hinder collaborative efforts in the national interest,” he said in a statement shared on social media today.

Nanta added that having more Sarawak representatives in the federal administration will enhance understanding of the State’s needs and aspirations while contributing to more comprehensive and balanced national policies.

He noted that Mas Gading MP Mordi Bimol has been appointed Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, while Miri MP Chiew Choon Man assumes the role of Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

However, he reminded that their responsibilities extend beyond Sarawak, carrying a “significant mandate” to serve all Malaysians.

“They now bear the mandate to serve all Malaysians, in line with the federal government’s principles of national and inclusive governance. What matters most is their readiness to work hard, cooperate, and contribute constructively for the nation,” he said.

Nanta emphasised that Mordi should be given the opportunity to demonstrate his capability and authority, particularly in managing and developing youth potential and the national sports ecosystem at both the state and national levels.

Likewise, Chiew should be trusted to carry out his responsibilities with professionalism, integrity, and full commitment for the benefit of the people and the nation.

“Every appointment to the Cabinet or the position of deputy minister should be regarded as a significant mandate. Regardless of political background, the key factor is the willingness to work hard, cooperate, and contribute constructively for the nation.

“Let us set aside political differences and work together for political stability, national development, and the well-being of all Malaysians,” he called on. — DayakDaily
