LUNDU, June 9: Sarawak needs RM17 billion allocation to repair, rebuild and upgrade 206 dilapidated health clinics, says Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni.
According to a report by TVS, Lukanisman said through his two series of tours across Sarawak, he found that almost all health clinics and the residential quarters of health personnel especially in rural areas, were in poor conditions.
“That (RM17 billion) is the figure presented to the Prime Minister (Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim) apart from the Sarawak government, not just to replace the clinics but the whole healthcare facilities in Sarawak.
“So that is a big number and will also involve a series of Malaysia Plans,” he said when met after the opening ceremony of the Healthy Malaysia National Agenda Tour (ANMS) for Lundu District and Kuching Division-level Asean Dengue Day Celebration 2024 in Sematan yesterday (June 8).
He also said a total of 39 health clinics in Sarawak will be repaired and upgraded this year involving an allocation of RM19 million which is in addition to the 30 clinics that were upgraded last year.
He explained that the Malaysian Ministry of Health (MOH) is currently in the process of listing health clinics and several hospitals in Sarawak that have been identified as dilapidated to be included in the list for upgrades under the 13th Malaysia Plan (MP13).
At the same time, Lukanisman said MOH is committed to completing the Petra Jaya Hospital with its construction expected to be completed by next year and operations to start in 2026. — DayakDaily
