ABU DHABI, Nov 7: The strategic collaboration between the Sarawak government and Abu Dhabi has been further expanded in the management of oil and gas resources in Sarawak.

“The first aspect is the management of the gas resources in Sarawak, the second involves potential exploration in Sarawak’s waters, which will be a cooperation between Petros and Petroleum Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS).

“The third aspect is the collaboration in the downstream gas activities, and I believe Mubadala is the only renowned oil company in the Middle East,” he said after leading a delegation for a meeting between Petros and Mubadala Energy at a hotel in Abu Dhabi today (Nov 7).

The meeting focused on discussing Sarawak Gas Roadmap and the potential investment opportunities for Mubadala Energy in Sarawak.

Also present were Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Minister for Utility and Telecommunication (MUT) Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability (MEESty) Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh, Sarawak Energy Berhad chairman Datuk Ibrahim Baki, Petros chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Hamid Bugo, Malaysia’s Ambassador to the UAE, Tengku Dato’ Sirajuzzaman Tengku Mohamed Ariffin, and senior Sarawak government officials.

The Mubadala Energy delegation was led by its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director, Sheikh Mansoor Mohamed Al Hamed.

Premier Abang Johari added that Mubadala’s extensive experience and its collaborations with major global organisations are ideal for Sarawak’s efforts to develop its gas and petrochemical industries.

“Similarly, the exploration of new resources, especially in petrochemicals, is key. I hope that the agreement between Mubadala and Petros will create an industry where we can harness natural resources from the north to the south of Sarawak, particularly from untapped areas,” he elaborated.

He also mentioned that once the collaboration is finalised, Sarawak will establish a liaison office in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to strengthen the cooperation between Sarawak and Abu Dhabi. — DayakDaily
