MIRI, Nov 19: The Sarawak Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS) has taken a major step in diversifying its revenue streams, now holding nearly 100 per cent equity in Lubuk Tiara Sdn Bhd following a restructuring and acquisition exercise of the plantation formerly managed by Rimbunan Hijau (RH).
In a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) news, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the move positions LAKMNS as the primary equity holder, giving the board greater control over the company’s operations.
“Recently we carried out a restructuring of the company where LAKMNS now has an interest in it. They have taken over the equity previously under RH.
“This means the entire operations of the company are under Lubuk Tiara and almost 100 per cent of its equity is now under the board,” he said during a press conference held in conjunction with his official working visit today.
Abang Johari highlighted proposals to diversify Lubuk Tiara’s income sources beyond oil palm, creating opportunities for community benefits.
“It should not focus solely on oil palm. There are other potential ventures that can produce by-products such as biomass, the planting of other crops, green economy activities, and circular economy initiatives.
“We can use waste from oil palm to produce animal feed,” he said, noting that such efforts could support nearby residents in generating income through livestock and related activities.
Also present were Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Minister for Education and Innovation Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, Deputy Minister for Public Health and Housing Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil, Miri Division Resident Galong Luang, and Lubuk Tiara Sdn Bhd managing director Councillor Drahman Jaladin. — DayakDaily
