KUCHING, Jan 12: Ministry for Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development (KPWK) to work with Sarawakian-Dutch company Agro Machtigen Sdn Bhd (Agro Machtigen) to bring local products to the international market.

KPWK minister Dato Seri Fatimah Abdullah said from the ministry’s perspective, the collaboration provides opportunity to empower local entrepreneurs to reach the next level, especially women, and at the same time, help reduce poverty.

“I am glad that they are interested not only in big farmers, but also smallholders which gives hopes for those in rural areas,” Fatimah told reporters when met after the courtesy call from representatives of the Sarawak-Dutch consortium here today.

Meanwhile, Agro Machtigen chief operating officer Darren Ho said they hoped to build a brand which will be globally recognised by local farmers.

“We would like to expand our reach to as many of them as possible because we understand that Sarawak has a goal to improve the commercialisation of products from Sarawak,” he added.

Ho pointed out that apart from adding value to local products, they will also ensure that the products meet international requirements before being globally exported.

“We will definitely incorporate many levels of technology. Firstly, we have to understand what the products are before we can find suitable technology that can help them develop into value-added products,” he said. — DayakDaily
