KUCHING, June 16: The Sarawak Metropolitan Food Cluster Consortium (SMFC) looks to replicate and adopt some technology and best practices learned during its participation in the International GreenTech Horticulture Exhibition in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, to drive commercialisation in Sarawak’s agriculture sector.
The SMFC delegation, led by Agro Machtigen Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Lukas Jenka, was at the event held on June 13 to 15 to explore the latest advancements in the food security industry.
“It was an eye-opening trip for us, and we were very impressed, especially with the level of innovation and technology that is being deployed in horticulture today.
“We are hopeful of replicating and adapting some of the technology and best practices we have witnessed here, in Sarawak, in line with the State government’s ambition of modernising our agriculture sector and enhancing food security,” Lukas said in a media release today.
He said the GreenTech exhibition was an excellent opportunity for SMFC to connect, network, share knowledge, and explore business ventures as it was a platform for industry professionals from all over the globe to come together.
GreenTech offers visitors an overview of the products and services of the world’s leading companies and innovators and the opportunity to learn about cutting-edge topics and an in-depth look at the technology of the future.
Held at the RAI Amsterdam Convention Centre, it includes a series of talks by industry experts over three days covering various topics, from start-ups, innovations, and solutions to major challenges in the industry.
Visitors could also have an overview of the market and business opportunities in horticulture to make better-informed investment decisions.
“We are here to identify the latest innovation and technology that could potentially be implemented in the Sarawak context to drive commercialisation in the agriculture sector.
“At the same time, we are also on the lookout for companies and foreign investors who may be keen to explore projects with us in Sarawak,” Lukas said, adding that this could open up new markets and offer cross-boundary training.
