KUCHING, Dec 5: Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd and SEDC Energy Sdn Bhd, two of Sarawak Economic Development Corporation’s (SEDC) most high-impact subsidiaries, will be officially moved out of SEDC and placed under new State entities beginning 2026.

SEDC chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain announced that under the Sarawak government’s restructuring exercise, Sarawak Metro will come under the State Financial Secretary Inc (SFS Inc) while SEDC Energy will be placed under Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS).

“With this transition ahead of us, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the directors and management teams of both companies for their dedication and contributions in establishing and operating these entities under SEDC since their inception,” he said during the SEDC Corporate Dinner 2025 held at Riverside Majestic Hotel here this evening.

Sarawak Metro was established in 2018 as a wholly owned subsidiary of SEDC to develop and operate the State’s urban rail transit system, ultimately giving rise to Malaysia’s first hydrogen-powered Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART).

SEDC Energy, formed in 2019, was created to lead Sarawak’s push into new energy industries including green hydrogen, renewable fuels and low-carbon solutions, positioning the State at the forefront of Asia’s emerging clean energy market.
