KUCHING, Sept 10: A total of 15 Sarawak media personnel are on a mission to conquer Southeast Asia’s highest peak, Mount Kinabalu in Sabah, in conjunction with Malaysia Day this Sept 16.
Of the 15, two are firefighters from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).
The group led by Kuching Division Journalists Association (KDJA) chairman Ronnie Teo departed from Kuching International Airport (KIA) to Kota Kinabalu today.
Teo said the group would stay the night at Kinabalu National Park before the hike mission the following day (Sept 11).
“We will begin hiking up to Laban Rata, which will take about four to five hours, and stay the night there.
“The group will continue the hike at 2am and expect to reach the peak around 6am to 7am,” he said in a statement today.
This would be the third time KDJA is organising a hiking activity to Mount Kinabalu.
“The programme is held as a response to the challenge by Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for media personnel to strengthen themselves mentally and physically,” he added.
Also present to send off the delegation at KIA was KDJA advisor Jacqueline Atiqah David.
For the record, KDJA has over 200 registered members across the Kuching division to date. — DayakDaily
