Sarawak Marine Police seize 27 cartons of untaxed beers, detain driver

MIRI, Jan 13: Sarawak Marine Police Region 5 seized 27 cartons of untaxed beers along with a van valued at RM64,125.35 in an operation on Friday.

The operation codenamed ‘Ops Kontraban’ took place at Jalan Melayu, behind My Beer Cafe Centre Point.


Miri OCPD ACP Alexson Naga Chabu reported that the marine police’s Intelligence Unit (URM) discovered the contraband inside the van around 2.30pm during the operation.

The van’s driver was detained to facilitate in investigation.

Upon inspection of the van, the team uncovered 156 beers of various brands, including Sagota, Camel Red, TsingTao Gold, Carlsberg Smooth Draught, Carlsberg Pilsner, and Guinness Foreign, all packed in boxes believed to be untaxed.

The local man was taken into custody for questioning as he failed to provide evidence of payment for the items.

The case is being investigated under the Customs Act 1967. — DayakDaily
