Sarawak maintains clean slate as no new Covid-19 cases reported

KUCHING, Sept 28: Sarawak recorded zero new Covid-19 cases today.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas revealed that the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak remains at 706.

ā€œToday, there are two new cases of Persons-Under-Investigation (PUI) reported while none are awaiting laboratory test results. There are no clusters which are still active in Sarawak.

ā€œThere is one patient who recovered and was allowed to be discharged from the hospital. It was a case which was detected in Sarawak but was admitted to Sungai Buloh Hospital in Selangor for treatment.

ā€œWith that, total recoveries increased to 682 persons or 96.6 per cent of the total Covid-19 cases in Sarawak,ā€ Uggah said during a press conference here to provide updates on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak today.

Uggah who is the Deputy Chief Minister added there were five patients who were still being treated in hospitals, comprising three patients in Miri Hospital and one each in Sarawak General Hospital and Bintulu Hospital.

A positive case from Sandakan, Sabah is still receiving treatment at Bintulu Hospital.

Meanwhile, for the three positive cases detected in the Lawas district recently, a total of 161 close contacts have been identified and undergone Covid-19 swab tests.

Uggah revealed the State Health Department has also conducted Covid-19 swab tests at the Immigration Detention Centre in Semuja, Serian and Bekenu, Miri.

A total of 342 detainees have been screened at the Semuja detention centre, while 389 detainees and 53 officers have been screened for Covid-19 in Bekenu, Miri.
