KUCHING, Sept 24: Sarawak is looking to equip its people with quality environmental education to prepare the next generation to tackle growing environmental and sustainability challenges.
In a TVS report, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said environmental education should cultivate lifelong awareness while equipping the younger generation for responsible environmental stewardship.
“The future generation needs to be equipped with the knowledge, values and skills required to address environmental and sustainability challenges.
“This includes fostering lifelong environmental awareness through quality environmental education,” he said at a press conference held in conjunction with the Environmental Education Conference (EEC) 2026 here today.
He said building a stronger environmental culture also required recognising the shared responsibilities of the government, organisations, agencies, schools, communities and young leaders.
He said young people, in particular, must be guided to become future leaders capable of strengthening responsible environmental management practices.
EEC 2026 will be held at Imperial Hotel here on Oct 27 and 28, with Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg scheduled to officiate the conference. — DayakDaily
