Sarawak leaders unite with over 5,000 worshippers for Aidilfitri prayers at State Jamek Mosque

KUCHING, March 21: The morning of 1 Syawal at the Sarawak State Jamek Mosque was filled with a profound sense of gratitude and togetherness as Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, joined Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in performing the Aidilfitri sunat prayers alongside thousands of Muslims today.

Their presence not only enlivened the celebration but also underscored the enduring spirit of unity and solidarity that anchors Sarawak’s harmony.

According to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Wan Junaidi arrived at 7.55am, while Abang Johari had earlier reached the mosque at about 7.45am.

The prayers were led by the State Grand Imam, Sahibul Fadhilah Dato Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi, with more than 5,000 congregants gathering to mark the first day of Syawal.

The programme continued with an Aidilfitri sermon titled ‘Syawal: Rising From Trials, United in Faith’, which highlighted the importance of gratitude, unity, and the resilience of the ummah in facing challenges.

Following the prayers, Wan Junaidi is scheduled to host an Aidilfitri Open House at the Astana Negeri Sarawak from 10am to 4pm.

Also in attendance were Sarawak Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Sarawak Islamic Council president Datuk Misnu Taha; and other distinguished guests. — DayakDaily
