Sarawak launches ASEAN’s first electrolyser assembly-distribution plant

KUCHING, June 6: Sarawak has launched the ASEAN region’s first electrolyser assembly-distribution facility (SEA-DF) at Demak Laut Industrial Park where at the end of the year, three lots will be shipped overseas, with more orders in the pipeline.

SEA-DF which is a jointly operated by SEDC Energy (SEDCE) and Lestari H2GaaS, a new subsidiary of PETRONAS, represents the future of home-grown technology and marks Sarawak’s first electrolyser assembly facility.

Through the sales and export of advanced equipment, Sarawak is set to make a significant impact in the new energy industry.

SEA-DF will deliver advanced and efficient electrolysers, capable of utilising less than 40 kilowatt-hour (kWhr) to produce one kilogram of hydrogen, setting a new benchmark for the industry.

During the launch of the facility today, Premier Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the facility is a testament to the smart collaboration Sarawak needs in its clean energy agenda which he has been pursuing and advocating.

“I think it is the first in ASEAN to produce electrolysers, which is an important component in producing hydrogen in our pursuit of the green economy,” said Abang Johari

“This collaboration is something that will benefit mankind, not only for Sarawak but also for the whole world because we have a duty to cool down our planet so that everybody is able to breath clean air,” said Abang Johari.

The event also saw six documents exchange with regards of the new energy development in Sarawak and Malaysia in general.

These documents are a Memorandum of Understanding between SEDCE and UOB Malaysia to support Sarawak’s sustainable economic growth; the Memorandum of Understanding between SEDCE and ILS Company (ILS) for the integration of SEDCE’s Hydrogen fuel cell trucks (hydrogen truck) into ILS’ logistics operation and the Supply Agreement between SEDCE and Hydrexia Sdn Bhd (Hydrexia) for the supply of green hydrogen for export and the domestic market.

A Letter of Understanding for the supply of electrolysers between Hydrexia, Lestari H2GaaS Sdn Bhd (LHSB) and Peric Hydrogen Technologies Company (Peric), a the Letter of Intent which spells out the potential collaboration for solar photovoltaic and hydrogen production technologies between SEDCE, LHSB and Solarvest Holdings and the Letter of Intent which inks the potential collaboration for the development of welding capability and industrial training between LHSB and Automotive and Welding Institute of Sarawak (Awisar) were also exchanged during the event.

Also present at the event include Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi, SEDC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Hussein, PETRONAS senior vice president Datuk Bacho Pilong, SEDCE Chief Executive Officer Robert Hardin and LHSB Executive Officer Collin Patrick. — DayakDaily
