KUCHING, Dec 21: Sarawak is determined to defend its title as overall champion at the 2026 Para Malaysia Games (Sukma) XXII in Selangor with a talent search set to begin in February next year.
In a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Deputy Minister of Community Wellbeing Development and Chef De Mission (CDM) for Sarawak Para Sukma 2024, Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam emphasised the importance of this initiative to ensure Sarawak’s athletes remain competitive and secure their 15th consecutive championship win.
“We are committed to preparing our athletes early by providing them with exposure and intensive training.
“The search for new talents is crucial in developing quality replacements who can take on the challenges of the upcoming games,” he said when addressing the Sarawak Para Sukma XXI Contingent Appreciation Ceremony on Friday (Dec 20).
Mohammad Razi also highlighted Sarawak’s success at the recent games in September, where the State clinched 82 gold, 53 silver, and 74 bronze medals, totalling 209 medals. This achievement reinforced Sarawak’s status as the overall champion for the 14th time.
