KUCHING, Nov 28: The Sarawak International Festival of Music and Arts (SIFMA) will hold its 6th edition at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) Complex banquet hall from Dec 6 to 7.

Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said the event will be organised by the International Music House (IMH).

This year’s festival introduces an added highlight: a special fashion showcase featuring international designers.

“The organisers have gone beyond Kuching, travelling as far as Bintulu and Miri to invite performers.

“There will also be a fashion showcase featuring designers from Hong Kong, Indonesia, Peninsular Malaysia, and other parts of the world, alongside Sarawakian artists, sculptors and more,” he told reporters during the SIFMA 6.0 press conference at the DUS media room today.

He added that the Sarawak Craft Council will also hold an exhibition for the artists participating in SIFMA.

Karim said a total of 18 artists from Indonesia, Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Mainland China, and Singapore will be performing this year.

He encouraged the public to reserve their seats early, as the event is open to all.

“We want to see Kuching become a city with a soul — ada jiwa.

“When society becomes more affluent, people are not only concerned about their next meal. They begin to look for experiences, performances, and cultural offerings.

“That is where performing arts and music festivals come in, showing that the city and its people are progressing,” he said.— DayakDaily
