KUCHING, Oct 13: Sarawak Integrity and Ombudsman Unit is extending its function to include inspecting projects undertaken by Sarawak government.

According to Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, these would mainly involve delayed or critically-delayed projects.

“Even projects already completed are also included to ensure they were completed based on specifications, budget, and schedule, with successful ones benchmarked for other similar projects.

“On the whole, projects must be properly and successfully implemented.

“We must fulfill our commitment to the people and we must deliver projects for the benefit of the people,” said Abang Johari, whose text of speech was read by his deputy Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas when representing the Premier to officiate the Ombuds Day 2022 held at Borneo Convention Center Kuching (BCCK) today.

Abang Johari noted that Sarawak Integrity and Ombudsman Unit has performed well in managing complaints effectively and efficiently in the last four years.

According to Abang Johari, the unit will, where relevant, make recommendations for improvements to the process and procedures or on any other matters relating to public administration.

“The unit shall always maintain its independence with no interference at all,” he added.

Abang Johari said the unit has also been categorically mandated with the authority to become the central body responsible to oversee, investigate and seek resolution on matters pertaining to maladministration, bureaucracy and red tapes in public sectors.

“This also serve to build better public administration and to strengthen the bond between the government and the people.

“In this regard, all ministries, departments and agencies ought to continue to giver their support and cooperation to Sarawak Ombudsman in managing and resolving complaints effectively and efficiently,” he said. — DayakDaily
