KUCHING, June 28: Roads along Jalan Padang Merdeka Kuching will be temporarily closed on June 29 in conjunction with the Sarawak Harmony Walk 2024.
Kuching district police chief ASP Ahsmon Bajah, in a statement today, said the closure will start at 6am until the end of the programme.
According to him, the closure will be implemented along Jalan Tun Haji Openg (from traffic light) heading towards Padang Merdeka, Jalan Haji Taha heading towards Jalan Market, from St Mary traffic light junction towards Jalan McDougall, from Jalan Pearl traffic light towards Jalan Wawasan, and Jalan Temple (in front of the temple).
As such, he advised the public to use alternative roads, such as from Jalan Simpang Tiga to Jalan Central Timur or through Jalan Ban Hock, to avoid congestion due to the road closure at Jalan McDougall.
Road users from Jalan Haji Taha are also advised to make a U-turn at the District Mosque roundabout, while those coming from Jalan Padungan should make a U-turn at Jalan Abell or Jalan Borneo.
“Members of the public are advised to park their vehicle at the provided parking space, namely in Medan Pelita, Plaza Aurora, Plaza Merdeka, Hikmah Exchange, Sarawak Islamic Complex and Borneo Cultural Museum parking spaces,” he added. — DayakDaily
