KUCHING, Nov 10: The Sarawak government has projected a RM100 billion capital injection by 2028 for the construction of basic infrastructure such as roads, bridges, water and electricity supply, and telecommunication networks.

Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) quoted that Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) chairman Ir Yusuf Abdul Wahab when he inaugurated the 2022 Construction Industry Entrepreneurship Tour Programme in Tanjung Manis and Sarikei, which was attended by 100 people from Kampung Penibong, Kampung Penuai, Kampung Salah Kecil dan Kampung Salah Besar.

Yusuf stated during his speech that if properly managed, particularly financially, contractors in the construction industry have a great chance for advancement.

“Local contractors must seize the opportunity presented by the State government’s implementation of so many projects following the outbreak of Covid-19.

“In fact, when the Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA) becomes operational later, there will be more opportunities when the planned development projects are implemented,” he said on Wednesday (Nov 9) at the Kampung Penibong Community Hall in Daro.

He pointed out there are numerous career opportunities in the construction sector in Sarawak, and that it is therefore appropriate for all communities, particularly Sarawak’s youth, to seize this opportunity to work in the construction industry in order to reduce reliance on foreign labour.

Yusuf, who is also the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for P206 Tanjong Manis, urged voters to fulfil their respective responsibilities by participating in large numbers so that voter turnout is high.

He had earlier witnessed the handover ceremony of the project site by the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR Sarawak) represented by JKR assistant engineer Mukah Naimah Saminan to the appointed contractor Syarikat Aleeya Aniq located in Kampung Sebako in Lundu.

The project involves upgrading the road in Kampung Sebako and has been approved with a RM221,979.50 grant from Semop assemblyman Datuk Abdullah Saidol’s Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) allocation.

It is expected to take six months, from Nov 8, 2022 to May 7, 2023.

When finished, the road will make it easier for Kampung Sebako residents to enter the village.

Previously, Yusuf was given the honour of kicking off the SK Sebako School Sports Tournament in a nearby field.  — DayakDaily
