DARO, Jan 12: Rural Sarawakians need not rush to register for the Sarawak Basic Necessities Assistance (SKAS) programme, as the Sarawak government has announced plans for a year-long roadshow campaign to facilitate the registration process.

According to a report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information, and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol, assured that government agencies and service centres will reach remote areas to ensure that all eligible individuals receive this assistance.

“This campaign aims to ensure no one is left behind, particularly those in rural areas,” he said during a press conference following the launch of the new MySRBN coverage in Pulau Bruit broadcast live by UKAS today.

Aligned with Sarawak’s commitment to empowering people through digital economy initiatives, the program also allows rejected applicants to appeal if they meet the eligibility criteria, such as having the ‘K’ indicator on their MyKad.

Abdullah explained that SKAS, introduced as a digital voucher, is designed to complement the development of digital infrastructure, including expanded Internet coverage in rural areas.

“This initiative not only simplifies the purchase of basic necessities but also educates rural communities about the importance of digital technology in daily life,” he added.

The newly introduced MySRBN coverage in Pulau Bruit is expected to expedite efforts to digitise rural areas, making Internet access more accessible and easing SKAS registration processes.

“This mission is not only about facilitating registration but also about improving digital literacy among the population, in line with Sarawak’s vision of integrating digital technology into everyday life,” he emphasised. – DayakDaily
