KUCHING, March 19: The Sarawak government is considering upgrading the Sungai Asap sub-district to become the Apau Koyan district as part of its drive to strengthen grassroots administration and accelerate local development.
In his Hari Raya Aidilfitri message today, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the proposed upgrade goes beyond a mere administrative change.
He described it as a strategic initiative to improve government service delivery, streamline development processes, and provide more focused attention to the needs of local communities.
“With this upgrade, we can plan development in a more structured way, boost local administrative capacity, and create greater economic opportunities for residents,” he said.
The Premier emphasised that the government remains committed to ensuring that rural and interior areas are fully included in Sarawak’s development agenda.
“Every area has its own potential, and it is our responsibility to harness it for the well-being of the people,” he added.
The proposal underscores Sarawak’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusive development, particularly in remote and underserved regions. — DayakDaily
