Sarawak govt has no connection to Jiwa Murni roads: Masing

Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing

KUCHING, Sept 9: The Jiwa Murni roads in Sarawak are not under the purview of the Sarawak government or the State Public Works Department (JKR).

Infrastructure and Port Development Minister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing stressed that the Sarawak government is not connected to Jiwa Murni roads in either funding or awarding of contracts.

ā€œJiwa Murni roads are not JKR roads. The State government has no connection either with the fundings or with award of contractors to build Jiwa Murni roads in Sarawak,ā€ said Masing in a press statement today.

Masing was responding to the recent case where two Sarawakian contractors had been remanded by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for two days in connection with a RM800 million road construction project.

The said project is under the Defence Ministry’s “Jiwa Murni” programme which involved the upgrading of 10 rural roads in Miri, Ba Kelalan, Limbang, Kapit and Belaga.

According to a statement by MACC, the roads built under the said project by companies of these two directors were not in accordance with the Public Works Department’s standards.ā€”DayakDaily
