Sarawak govt disburses RM182 million to 52,025 recipients in past 10 months

KUCHING, Nov 1:  From January to October 2021, the Sarawak Welfare Department has disbursed RM182 million as monthly financial aid to 52,025 recipients under various welfare schemes. 

This was disclosed by Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah at Deepavali Love Bouquet Ceremony held at a local hotel here today.


She said the event was held to present additional financial aid to ease the burden of underprivileged families and to cheer them up during the festive season of Deepavali celebration. 

A total of 53 recipients in Kuching Division received cash assistance of RM100 and a hamper worth RM80 today.

“For those who do not have the opportunity to attend the ceremony today, a contribution of RM100.00 will be credited to their respective accounts,” said Fatimah who is also Dalat assembly woman.

Meanwhile, on Budget 2022, she said it was a manifestation of a government which understood the plight of the people especially the vulnerable, at this time of Covid-19 pandemic.  

Budget 2022 which was presented by Finance Minister Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz last Friday will provide RM2,000 in financial assistance to households with an income of less than RM2,000 per month and with three or more children in 2022.

Under Budget 2022, those earning less than RM1,169 per month will be eligible for welfare assistance, said Fatimah.

“The government will also provide RM25 million to the Yayasan Keluarga Malaysia to lead efforts to provide welfare and education for those made orphans by the Covid-19 and to safeguard their future,” said Fatimah. — DayakDaily.
