KUCHING, April 17: The Sarawak government demands the right formula be used in the distribution of wealth as enshrined in Article 112D of the Federal Constitution.

According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) on April 16, Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the Sarawak government has yet to receive an accurate formula from the federal government regarding the distribution of revenue to the State.

“We want the correct formula for how that amount is obtained. As long as this is not resolved, we do not want to accept it,” he said during a ‘Majlis Sungkei Dengan Premier Abang Jo 2022’ held in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.

Abang Johari emphasised that the Sarawak government will also continue to claim its rights through existing agreements, including the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report and existing provisions.

He added what the Sarawak government is fighting for is for the future generations of Sarawakians.

Meanwhile, Abang Johari said the Sarawak government is always committed to helping Sarawakians affected by the Covid-19 outbreak and other disasters, including students studying and those living in Peninsular Malaysia.

He disclosed that 38,106 Sarawakians, including 21,214 students in Peninsular Malaysia, have been assisted and based on the latest records from December 2021 to April 2022, the Sarawak government has injected an additional allocation of RM2.5 million to help Sarawakians in Peninsular Malaysia.

“During the pandemic, the Sarawak government has allocated about RM5.8 billion to help the people through BKSS 1.0 to 8.0.

“This is the only place where the government is concerned with its people, especially those who travel outside Sarawak due to the spread of Covid-19 and the Omicron variant,” he said. — DayakDaily
