KUCHING, June 16: The Sarawak government continues to support Chinese schools in the State with a funding amounting to RM22 million this year.
In a social media post, Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian said this happened only in Sarawak.
“In Sarawak, not only is there an allocation for Chinese primary schools but also for Chinese independent schools.
“This is because Chinese schools in Sarawak are for all Sarawakians, regardless of race. That is why the Sarawak government is supportive of Chinese education,” said Dr Sim, who is also Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister.
The Batu Kawa assemblyman made the announcement when visiting SJK(C) Chung Hua Batu Kawa today.
He said for this year, the Sarawak government will allocated RM10 million for Chinese independent schools and another RM12 million for Chinese primary schools.
“This is an increase of RM2 million for Chinese primary schools as compared to RM10 million in 2021,” said Dr Sim.
The tradition of supporting Chinese education was started by late Chief Minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem. It has been continued by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari. — DayakDaily
