KUCHING, Oct 11: The Sarawak government gives fair opportunities to all races to be involved in affairs concerning the state, says senior lawyer Shankar Ram Asnani.
“Sarawak government is very fair to all races,” he said in a statement today.
Shankar was honoured with the Johan Bintang Sarawak (JBS) award in conjunction with the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud’s 84th birthday yesterday (Oct 10).
Hence, Shankar expressed his hopes for those who have been given the chances to contribute to the well-being of their communities to work towards the common goal of protecting Sarawak.
“Everyone is given a fair opportunity to participate in the affairs of Sarawak for the well-being of their respective communities and we should work towards that common goal of mutuality to protect Sarawak.
“We should not let Sarawak be weakened by outsiders primarily because this is for the future of our children, Sarawakians,” he asserted.
In stating this, he noted the great governance portrayed by Sarawak’s current leaders such as Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.
“At present, we have good dynamic leaders like YAB Abang Jo, YB Douglas Uggah and YB Dr Sim who are all driven by the same common goal to make Sarawak strong and successful,” reiterated Shankar.
He was among the 1,194 individuals who were conferred state awards, honours and medals in conjunction with the Head of State’s birthday this year.
Of the total, 35 received their respective awards, honours and medals at the investiture ceremony at the Lapau of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex here yesterday. —DayakDaily
