KUCHING, June 26: The Sarawak Golf Tourism Association (SGTA) will help to help promote Sarawak as a premier golfing destination internationally.
Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts (MTCP) Sarawak Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the launch of SGTA today is a step towards building a stronger golf tourism industry in Sarawak.
“With SGTA, coupled with the efforts of my ministry and Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), it is sure to put Sarawak on the map as a top golfing destination, attracting visitors from all over the world,” he said during the inauguration of SGTA and launching of Sarawak Best Golf Destination held at a local hotel today.
Abdul Karim said SGTA, however, needs to work in tandem with other relevant parties, such as those from tourism travel and tours agencies, the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH), and local clubs to achieve its objectives.
He also said that his ministry and the State government are willing to assist in terms of finances and promotion if it can reach a certain level to elevate the State’s tourism industry further.
“On behalf of the MTCP, we would like to express our appreciation to the golf tourism industry partners, including golf course operators in Kuching, Sibu, Miri, and Bintulu; tour operators, associations, and the local communities for their remarkable efforts in improving the golfing experience in Sarawak,” he added.
Among the objectives of SGTA are to promote Sarawak as a golf tourism destination in domestic and international markets, organising golfing tourism events and exhibitions within and outside Sarawak, create and provide educational programmes and activities to produce proficient golfers and tourist guides and for the improvement of golf and tourism facilities and products, and to contribute to the overall development of the game of golf and the tourism industry in Sarawak.
The association also aims to promote the economic, welfare, and social interests of its members, including to co-operate with or being affiliated with or a member of other organisations and groups having similar or complimentary objects, particularly in the fields where the association is active or in wants to be engaged in. — DayakDaily
