KUCHING, April 19: Sarawak will get an extra public holiday for Hari Raya Aidilfitri either on April 21 (Friday) or April 24 (Monday).

In a statement today, Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki said that the Sarawak government has agreed to grant the additional public holiday under Section 5 of the Public Holidays Ordinance for Sarawak following the advice from Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

This comes following the decision made by the federal government.

Should the first day of Hari Raya fall on April 21 (Friday), then the next Monday (April 24) will be an additional public holiday.

If it falls on April 22 (Saturday), then this Friday (April 21) will be the extra public holiday. If this is the case, as the second day of Hari Raya will then fall on a Sunday (April 23), Monday (April 24) will automatically be a replacement public holiday. — DayakDaily
