KUCHING, Dec 6: Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian is pushing for the Sarawak Flour Mill (SFM) to broaden its reach and expand beyond Sarawak in the next five years.
He said Sarawak needs strong and capable industry players to drive the State forward and help realise its full potential.
“To Interflour Group, I look forward to your continued participation and stepping up to help Sarawak,” he said during his speech at the SFM 30th Anniversary Annual Dinner at Pullman Hotel yesterday (Dec 5).
Speaking at the event, SFM East Malaysia general manager Jason Yap Ket Loong said the anniversary is a celebration of a community that has supported the mill since day one.
“All these are not possible without the people of Sarawak’s support, and equally instrumental to make this 30-year journey possible and meaningful are all our dedicated business partners. I don’t define you as partners as I define each one of you as a family member of Sarawak Flour Mill,” he said.
Yap highlighted that SFM continued operating non-stop during the Covid-19 pandemic with strong support from Interflour’s top management.
“Certainly, SFM faced the early struggles, the market shifts, and the unpredictable nature of the market as at that time flour was all imported into Sarawak, where locals had no command over what they truly wanted or needed,” he added.
With steady growth and strong partner support, SFM broadened its flour products and extended its supply network throughout Sarawak.
Yap also expressed gratitude to the community, colleagues, partners and leadership for standing strong with the mill through the decades.
Also present were SFM chairman Goh Cheng Bee, Interflour Group managing director and chief executive officer Avi Fintz, Interflour Malaysia chief executive officer Alex Lee and Interflour Group general manager Wong Shey Hian. — DayakDaily
