Sarawak flood victims surge to 5,561, 47 PPS now open

KUCHING, Jan 30: The number of flood victims in Sarawak has jumped significantly today with 5,561 flood evacuees now seeking shelter at 47 temporary evacuation centres (PPS) across Sarawak.

In a news report by TVS, according to the statement from the Sarawak Civil Defence Force (APM) as of 6am this morning, the relief centers have accommodated 5,561 victims from 1,545 families in 14 districts.

Serian and Bintulu recorded the highest number of flood evacuees, with 1,683 and 1,568 people respectively.

It noted that among the affected areas are Kuching (Kuching and Bau), Samarahan (Samarahan, Sebuyau, and Simunjan), Serian (Serian and Siburan), Sibu (Kanowit and Selangau), Bintulu (Bintulu and Tatau), and Miri (Miri and Subis).

Meanwhile, in Sibu, 71 fire-affected victims were placed in the Datuk Aaron Hall, Bawan Kanowit evacuation center.

The report also stated that APM Sarawak the flood victim data is still being updated and will be notified from time to time. – DayakDaily
