KUCHING, Jan 30: The number of flood victims in Sarawak has risen this evening with 6,597 evacuees from 1,808 families seeking shelter at temporary relief centres (PPS) across Sarawak.
In a statement issued this evening, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) reported that as of now, 48 PPS have been set up, sheltering 6,597 flood victims, including 1,808 heads of households.
Evacuees are receiving essential care, including food and other necessary supplies.
“The Divisional Disaster Management Committees, in close coordination with various agencies, have mobilised 4,742 personnel and 531 assets to support rescue operations and relief efforts on the ground.
“These agencies remain committed to providing critical assistance to affected communities.
The SDMC is actively overseeing the deployment of aid and ensuring that response actions are swift and effective.
“Additional personnel from other divisions will be sent to high-risk areas to strengthen the ongoing efforts,” SDMC chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said.
“We urge the public to stay informed about weather conditions and to evacuate immediately if they are in affected areas, before the situation worsens,” he added.
He emphasized that the SDMC remains on high alert, maintaining constant communication with the Divisional Disaster Management Committees to ensure readiness and timely updates.
