KUCHING, May 7: Sarawak is exploring the establishment of an Innovation Lab in collaboration with global software leader Dassault Systèmes to accelerate the training of engineers in advanced 3D design, simulation, and smart manufacturing technologies.
The initiative was discussed during a strategic meeting between a Sarawak delegation led by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Dassault Systèmes at its Vélizy-Villacoublay headquarters in Paris on Tuesday (May 6).
The Innovation Lab is expected to play a key role in supporting Sarawak’s transition towards high-tech industries and smart city solutions.
The delegation was introduced to Dassault’s cutting-edge 3DEXPERIENCE platform, which integrates 3D design, simulation, product lifecycle management, and urban planning into a unified digital environment.
Discussions focused on collaborative opportunities in Industry 4.0 adoption, aerospace development, infrastructure digitalisation, and talent development through specialised training and Centres of Excellence.
“We are very impressed by Dassault Systèmes’ global leadership in advanced manufacturing and digital innovation. Sarawak’s strategic direction—centred on high-tech manufacturing, aerospace, and smart city development—aligns closely with Dassault’s capabilities.
“We are keen to develop joint initiatives that will accelerate Sarawak’s digital and industrial transformation,” Awang Tengah said in a statement today.
The meeting concluded with an agreement for InvestSarawak to coordinate with Dassault Systèmes and local stakeholders on plans for the Innovation Lab. The facility aims to bolster engineering capabilities in the region, enhance manufacturing competitiveness, and develop integrated smart city technologies.
Immediate next steps include follow-up technical discussions and a proposed visit by Dassault Systèmes representatives to Sarawak. — DayakDaily
