KUCHING, March 8: Sarawak Energy will be testing its upgraded flood warning stations in the vicinity of Batang Ai Hydroelectric Powerplant (HEP) reservoir tomorrow (March 9) as well as on March 12 and March 13.
In a press release today, Sarawak Energy stated that the flood warning stations, located in Lubok Antu, Engkilili, and SK Ng Delok, were part of the state-owned energy developer and power utility’s emergency preparedness response in line with international good practice.
An outreach session was recently held with the community leaders and relevant government agencies in Lubok Antu to communicate the schedule for the testing and commissioning of the warning systems.
On March 9, the Lubok Antu flood warning station is expected to commence its testing at approximately 9am with a warning tone that includes both intermittent and continuous tones for around 10 minutes.
The testing schedule for the Engkilili flood warning station is expected to begin at 2pm for 10 minutes, with a similar warning tone to the Lubok Antu flood warning station.
The warning tones can be heard more than 1.3km from each respective stations.
This will be replicated at the same time on Tuesday (March 12) for Lubok Antu and Engkilili stations respectively.
The testing of the SK Nanga Delok flood warning station is scheduled to commence at 10.30am on Wednesday (March 13) with a similar run of 10 mins that includes both intermittent and continuous tones.
Residents in the area are advised that the timing of the testing and commissioning of the warning systems are dependent on the situation at the sites.
Sarawak Energy reminded the public not to be alarmed, as this is a routine exercise to test its preparedness. For queries, do contact its 24-hour Customer Care Centre at 1-300-88-3111. — DayakDaily
