KUCHING, September 8: Elisha Voon Wubin, an 18-year-old student pursuing a foundation course for his Chemical Engineering degree at Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak, has been awarded a scholarship from the 2023 Sarawak Energy Berhad (Sarawak Energy) scholarship programme.
Hailing from Kuching, Voon expressed immense relief upon receiving the scholarship, which will significantly alleviate the financial burden on his parents.
The cost of his degree, including tuition and living expenses, could reach up to RM100,000.
“The good news came with a dinner celebration with my family, and the scholarship will relieve my stress,” he shared.
Voon further explained that this financial support would enable him to concentrate on his studies and pursue his desired profession in the future.
He recounted applying for the Sarawak Energy Scholarship while still in school, based on his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) trial results.
Although he had doubts due to difficulties during the interview, Voon was pleasantly surprised to be selected as a recipient.
As the youngest of two siblings, Voon mentioned that the scholarship would provide him with a monthly allowance of RM1,200.
He expressed gratitude to Sarawak Energy for their generosity, emphasizing the positive impact such scholarships have on students’ lives.
Voon is among the 207 scholarship recipients of the 2023 Sarawak Energy scholarship programme, which includes 16 employees.
The programme, with a total value of RM16 million in grants, underscores Sarawak Energy’s commitment to supporting educational endeavors in the region.
Upon completing his degree, Voon plans to fulfill a three-year bond with Sarawak Energy, marking the beginning of his professional journey. — DayakDaily
