The MoU was exchanged between Lau Kim Swee, chief executive officer (CEO) of Syarikat SESCO Berhad, Sarawak Energy’s operations and retail arm, and Prof Dr Patrick Then, CEO of SAIC.

It was witnessed by Ir. James Ung, group CEO of Sarawak Energy, together with Dato Dr Anderson Tiong Ing Heng, SAIC board member and general manager for Sarawak Multimedia Authority.

“Under the collaboration, Sarawak Energy and SAIC will develop and implement Sovereign Energy AI tools that will support the seamless integration of renewable energy into Sarawak’s power grid, boosting efficiency and reliability.

“The partnership will also introduce talent development programmes to nurture the next generation of experts in energy AI, equipping them with the skills to drive digital innovation in the sector,” it said.

The MoU was exchanged during one of the SAREF 4.0’s parallel sessions on ‘Advancing Next Generation Energy: Innovation and Technology in Energy Transition’. The session gathered energy leaders and technology experts to examine how innovation can reshape the sector.

SAREF 4.0 gathered about 2,000 participants, including exhibitors from 37 countries, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, financiers, researchers, and community representatives to share perspectives on advancing the global energy transition.

Organised biennially by Sarawak Energy, the forum has grown into one of the region’s important advocacy platforms for sustainability and renewable energy.

Anchored on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), SAREF 4.0 highlighted the importance of collaboration in achieving shared ambitions for decarbonisation, energy security and inclusive growth.

Through a series of plenary sessions, panel discussions and knowledge exchanges, the forum provided a platform to showcase innovative solutions, strengthen regional partnerships and explore pathways towards a cleaner and more resilient energy future.

“The MoU between Sarawak Energy and SAIC exemplifies the type of forward-looking collaboration encouraged at SAREF, demonstrating how technology, talent and partnerships can be brought together to accelerate the transition towards a sustainable energy system.” — DayakDaily
