KUCHING, March 29: Sarawak Energy is intensifying its efforts to ensure a stable, reliable and uninterrupted electricity supply across Sarawak during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive season.
In a public advisory, it stated that its operations and retail arm, Syarikat SESCO Bhd (SESCO) is closely monitoring of the power system, with contingency measures in place.
SESCO chief executive officer, Lau Kim Swee assures the public that thorough preparations are in place to ensure a reliable electricity supply during this period. Standby teams are on 24-hour alert, ready to respond swiftly to any supply disruptions, while enhanced system monitoring helps safeguard reliability.
“Our dedicated teams are working around the clock to keep the lights on for all Sarawakians celebrating Hari Raya in the event of any disruptions, standby teams are ready for immediate deployment, with mobile generator sets available to support critical areas if required,” said Lau.
While SESCO is committed to ensuring a smooth and safe celebration, SESCO seeks the public’s cooperation in practicing safe electricity usage to help prevent outages and electrical hazards.
It urged the public to take the following precautions:
- Ensure that all electrical wiring is in good condition to prevent power trips or faults
- Avoid overloading sockets with multiple adaptors and extension cables, as this can cause overheating and fire hazards.
- Keep extension cords untangled and never place them under carpets or furniture to prevent overheating.
- Report any trees or vegetation touching overhead lines to Sarawak Energy immediately
- Notify Sarawak Energy/SESCO promptly of any power outages or faulty cables for swift action.
It stated that third-party contractors must also contact Sarawak Energy before conducting any excavation.
The public is encouraged to report any electrical issues or suspicious activities near electrical facilities to Sarawak Energy’s Customer Care Centre at 1300-88-3111, via email at customercare@sarawakenergy.com, through the SEB cares mobile app/web portal, or by chatting with virtual agent CARINA to prevent vandalism and theft-related outages and in the interest of public safety. – DayakDaily
