KUCHING, Aug 23: The transformation of the Land and Survey Information System (LASIS) into the Next Generation platform (LASIS NextGen) marks a significant milestone in strengthening land management in Sarawak.
In a TVS news report, Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg emphasised that the initiative is not just about adopting the latest technology, but also about aligning land services with the state’s ongoing digitalisation drive.
“The integration of modern geospatial systems and user-friendly online applications will not only enhance departmental efficiency but also improve transparency and broaden public access to information.
“This move will further strengthen public confidence in the government’s ability to manage land in an operational, integrated, and trustworthy manner,” he said in a speech delivered on his behalf by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan during the closing ceremony of the Land and Survey Department’s Innovation Day (HIITS) 2025 on Friday (Aug 22).
LASIS NextGen is expected to be fully implemented by 2030.
Abang Johari also stressed that innovation should not stop at the creation of systems or applications but must continue with the adoption of new technological solutions.
He further commended the Land and Survey Department for its achievements, having surveyed over 1.2 million hectares of land since 2010, of which more than 900,000 hectares have been gazetted and issued with official documentation.
The Premier added that the issuance of native customary land titles will remain a priority, requiring a fair, inclusive, and collaborative approach involving all stakeholders. — DayakDaily
