KUCHING, Aug 22: Sarawakian diver Enrique Maccartney Harold secured his first individual diving gold medal at the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2024 today, but the 21-year-old from Balai Ringin was not entirely satisfied with his performance.

Enrique won the men’s 10-metre platform event with a commendable score of 409.10.

“I’m not satisfied because 409 points is not enough for me. I had set a personal goal to score above 450. Still, I’m glad to have reached 409,” he said after the prize presentation ceremony at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre in Petra Jaya.

Reflecting on his performance, Enrique expressed pride in his achievement, noting that the last time he surpassed the 400-point mark was at the SEA Games.

He shared the same training batch as national diver Bertrand Rhodict Lises, who recently represented Malaysia at the Paris Olympics.

Despite his success, Enrique is determined to improve further.

“I will train harder upon returning to the national squad to perform better in future games. I believe that with a strong mindset, a never-give-up spirit, and maintaining a healthy body, everything will fall into place,” he said.

Enrique dedicated his gold medal to his supporters, family, friends, coaches, the Sarawak Sports Council (MSNS), and the National Sports Institute.

In the same event, Sarawak’s Elvis Priestley Clement took the silver with a score of 390.25, while Sabah’s Muhammad Anilrian Normatr Abdullah claimed the bronze with 330.40 points. — DayakDaily
